CHOREOCOSMOS STUDY AND IDEALS
In addition to cosmic and sacred dance, there is the study aspect of the schooling: entering into an understanding of the new star wisdom as belonging to the Mysteries of Sophia, the Divine Wisdom of the cosmos. The study activity entails learning about the planets, the signs of the zodiac, and the four elements (fire, air, water, and earth). It also involves becoming acquainted with spiritual exercises – complementary to the cosmic and sacred dances – that can help open the way to knowledge and experience of the star mysteries of Divine Sophia.
Entering into these star mysteries, one comes to the experience that there is a continual exchange of divine energy between the cosmos, the sun, and the earth. This cosmic energy is Divine Love which weaves throughout the entire universe. The cultivation of love is the spiritual ideal of the School of Cosmic and Sacred Dance. In doing the cosmic and sacred dances, we seek to connect our hearts and minds with Divine Love and with the Supreme Consciousness that pervades all existence.
The Choreocosmos School of Cosmic and Sacred Dance, while based in America (under the auspices of the Sophia Foundation of North America), offers the training also in other countries. As a “moving school”, with an underlying cosmic language as its basis, it seems to be universal in scope. The stars belong to everyone and they are united with us all. Our image of the heavens is of a world working in beauty and divine harmony, and the more we enter into communion with the world of stars, the more our gestures and our whole lives begin to correspond to the harmony of the heavens. The cosmic dances, when moved in harmony, serve to create a vessel receiving higher spiritual impulses flowing down from the heavens into earthly life. At the same time, we learn through cosmic dance to “speak to the stars”. This work can be seen as a spiritual training and discipline to take into one’s daily life and practice. In due course of time, it is anticipated that there will be an increasing number of qualified teachers of cosmic and sacred dance.
